Install Canon iR 1023 iF Scanner for Windows 7

Maybe some of you had or still have the same problem as I had - until yesterday. In our offices we use a Canon iR 1023 iF Multifunctional Device (Print, Copy, Fax and Scan) and since recently, we use also Windows 7 64-Bit.


I needed several tries to figure out how this might work and finally got a solution yesterday. Now I can use the device's full functionality again.

The solution

It is, as soon as I knew how it works, really simple.

  1. Download the 64-Bit drivers from Canon (I used the USA-Site, since they have the most actual drivers): Use this link to download the complete driver package (PCL 5 & 6, UFR II and Fax)
  2. Extract the drivers (and open the folder to have a quick look). You will find under x64/driver/ two files with the name IR22SCN (ending on .cat and .inf) which you need.
  3. Now go to Start > Control Panel > Hardware > Device Manager (You will need Admin rights for this).
  4. Click on any device or device category and select from menu Action > Add Legacy Hardware
  5. Select Install Hardware manually ...
  6. Select Imaging devices
  7. Provide drivers manually (as downloaded with the name IR22SCN).

So far everything works and the device is installed. But within the Hardware Manger the device is displayed as not working correctly (Yellow exclamation mark sign). But don't bother, with the next few steps this will be corrected.

Activate device correctly

  1. Now go to the Scanner and plug in the USB cable to your computer. It will recognize the scanning device and install a second identical device, which will be displayed as correctly installed. Maybe you need a restart, but after this you can work with the scanner.
  2. Once your scanner works you can delete the first device, which was initially created with the drivers and is still displaying to be not working correctly. Just delete it in the Hardware manager.

This are quite a few steps to bring the scanner to work, but you can now use the full potential of your device. Enjoy it.

Hi! Thks for the information working!!
But i have a question, how install the scaner by network? i mean. The printer is conected to switch/hub & I want to install the scanner in pc HP p6200 in network (IP Adress)

Hi, do you have the driver for this scaner but for Windows 7 32Bits ?

Hi, Thanks very much fot the info it worked with not problems, the only update that I will like to is the the only driver on canon list that had the irs22 is the iR1023_vista_2003_xp_x64_INF, all the other didnot have the scn driver onn them. thanks very much
