After using long time version 7.03 of the Lotus Notes Client for OS X, I have now switched in a first try to the 8.5 Public Beta 2 version, hoping that Notes would have improved.

LN_85Beta_Loading.pngI was positively surprised at the first glance. The application became quicker than the old one. Although after a few starts, I had to realise, that the most caching and loading is now done at startup. You see a nice screen at the startup, which tells you now, that Notes is doing something and not freezing. But compared with other programs, which use a lot of memory (such as Adobe Photoshop), the startup process is within the limits.

Lotus Notes Developer's Toolbox

A few day ago I have received my ordered book 'Lotus Notes Developer's Toolbox: Tips for Rapid and Successful Deployment'. Although I already know a lot about Lotus Notes/Domino since I am programming since about 3 years on this plattform, I thought this book has some nice insights.
The book covers nearly all aspects of the notes programming and focuses on the @-Formula-Language and to more extensive on Lotus Script. It provides comprehensive tutorials for beginners (although I think you should at least have some experience with the Lotus Domino Designer to work with the tutorials in an appropriate way) and for experienced/advanced users. The most important application type (reference application, workflow application, web application) are covered by the tutorials, which provide for each section good tips. Additionaly some hints and tricks are showed for Lotus Script and for @-Formulas, each for the different design elements (Forms, Views, Navigation, Web).

All put together it seems to be a good book for advanced programmers, that still want to learn something. Especially the development process is looked at over the complete book. So this makes it a good ressource for all who want to go into a more strucutred/professional programming of Lotus Notes. I will report more when I have tried/implemented the first tips of the tutorials.
